It took Sharon Petersen until after she retired from her career in Landscape Design for her to pick up her first paint brush and fulfill the long held promise to herself that one day she would paint watercolors. Self taught and an avid art collector, she knew what she liked so decided to start painting what she knew best: flowers and landscapes. She dove in fearlessly and has never looked back.
As her ability improved Sharon decided to tackle portraits. She took two short courses from artist Jeanne Vodden. Sharon’s portraits, as can be seen in the “Illusions” exhibit, are often provocative psychological studies of strong emotions in stark contrast to the bold beauty of her florals.
Sharon exhibits her original art several times a year in various Bay Area locations and produces greeting cards from most of her original works. These can be purchased here at the Amaral Gallery, from her website: www.SAPstudiodesigns.com, from the aRt Cottage Gallery, Concord, CA, or from Cup o’ Jo, Clayton, CA.
