Psychedelic Primitives Art by Sandy Kovalcik
My psychedelic primitive artwork reflects my life experience and travels. I am completely untrained as an artist. From the imagination of a little girl born in the tenements of the Lower East Side of New York, through entering college at the age of 16 during the Beatles and Psychedelic Era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, through many years in the Caribbean and Florida with their bright colors, and now in the peace and harmony of Nova Scotia and the North Bay Area of California, I have gathered all the ingredients that make up my unique vision of the world. My work has been compared to, and may be reminiscent of Grandma Moses or Maud Lewis.
My artwork has been on exhibit in a number of galleries and shows in the US and Canada (see below) and has been internationally recognized with ribbons from the Frederick, Maryland County Fair and The South Shore Exhibition in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. My art graces homes and businesses in Western Europe, the United States and Canada.
I share my home with my husband of 45 years, flutist Jim Kovalcik and our dog Cody, and enjoy reading, gardening, playing guitar, going to the movies and traveling.
